The front of the button has the mother pelican feeding her young, which is the state seal of the great state of Louisiana. The face has a nice dark maroon tone to the brass with a clear pelican. These are listed as LA8 in Albert's button book. It is purely 100% Confederate in use and manufacture. The original back is present but the fragile iron shank is missing in action. The verbal history that accompanied the button is that it was recovered in a Confederate campsite near the battle of North Anna, Virginia. The Battle of North Anna was fought on May 23rd through 26th 1864, as part of Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign against Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. This is a fine displaying original Confederate made Civil War Louisiana coat button.
