Artillery
Fine Excavated Confederate Sciprt Style Artillery Made by Isaacs CS107
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great button! It is the Confederate coat size "Script" artillery button. This is the pattern listed as figure CS107 in Albert's button book and CSA215a1 in Tice's button book, both of which we sell. On the face of the button it has the beautiful script style "A" which denotes the Artillery branch of Confederate service. The original back and shank are securely intact with a maker's mark from the famous Confederate button maker S. Isaacs who was located in London, England. He made buttons for the Confederacy and imported them through the blockade. The verbal history that accompanied the buckle is that it was recovered in 1981 in a Confederate campsite near the battle of North Anna, Virginia. The Battle of North Anna was fought on May 23rd through 26th 1864, as part of Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign against Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. This one is a great example that anyone would be proud to own.
