It has a wonderful dark chocolate color to the brass on the front with a pleasing look. The original back and shank are present. It has the desirable backmark of "W.G. MINTZER * PHId". This pattern of button is listed in Albert's button book as GA2av and in Tice's button book it is listed as GA203as1. The verbal history that accompanied the buckle is that it was recovered in 1981 in a Confederate campsite near the battle of North Anna, Virginia. The Battle of North Anna was fought on May 23rd through 26th 1864, as part of Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign against Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. This is a great looking button for any collector or collection.
