Wonderful Confederate Battle Pike Made From an Enfield Rifle Bayonet Blade

This is one of the coolest artifacts we have had in quite some time. This piece was part of the large horde of artifacts that were recovered in 1981 by Robert Bohrn and Gregg Craven. They were recovered from the site of the demolition of trainload of Confederate weapons in May 1865. The majority of the Confederate pikes that were recovered were the bridal cutter and cloverleaf design. There were also some pikes that were constructed using blades from Confederate imported Enfield pattern rifle bayonets. These were evidently important from England with straight shanks on the back instead of the standard socket. This way they could be added to the shafts and used as pikes. This one has the original thin iron collar remaining at the base. There is even a YouTube video showing the size and scale of their recovery in 1981. Here is the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch'v=19YnxZwNOmc&feature=youtu.be this is a fantastic Confederate piece of ingenuity that was lost at the end of the war.
