Here is a sword that you seldom see offered. This is the sword that is known as a Model 1834 Officer's sword. This is a beautifully designed officer's swords like those pictured on pages 60 through 80 of the US Army sword book by John Thillmann. This one has the full-length 30 inch long blade. This one was made with the beautiful etching on the blade. On the front side it has the panoply of arms at the base with the "U.S." in the wreath above. Above the U.S. it has the beautiful Union eagle with the arrows of war in one talon and the branch of peace in the other. On the back side it has a completely different design but it is equally beautiful. There is another Union eagle with the stars above. Each side of the blade has the single center fuller. The sword has the brass handguard and pommel cap. This pattern of hand guard is known to collectors as the "Boat" style guard. The brass has a rich golden honey color to the patina of the brass with the original gold gilding from the factory. The handle of the sword is made of a cast piece of pewter that is designed to look like a tightly wrapped wire. What is special about this sword is that the original scabbard is still present. The scabbard is constructed of leather and brass. It has the throat intact as well as the rings and mounts. The throat, drag and middle mount each have the stamped and matching "22" assembly numbers. This is a great looking Model 1834 officer's sword with a fine looking blade.
