Single Shot Percussion Pistols Priced Under $700
Model 1842 Military Pistol by H. Aston of Middletown, Connecticut
Click on an image to enlarge

This is an original single shot Civil War era military model 1842 pistol. This one was made by the firm of H. Aston of Middletown, Connecticut and you can still see the maker's marking on the side of the lockplate but we can no longer see the production location stamp, we know that Aston made the gun. It has the 1849 date of manufacture behind the hammer along with the Middletown, Connecticut production location. The mechanics of the lockplate catches on both positions. All of the metal parts have a medium to lighter color to them with some areas of salt and pepper surface from use and age. The barrel is full length with a nice used look. At the breech of the barrel you can see traces of the government inspector marks after all of these years. This one would have fired a .54 caliber round ball. It has the ramrod under the barrel that has the cool swivel style ramrod guide. This was designed to keep the ramrod from being lost. The ramrod and swivel are the original ones and they still work well. These have always been one of my favorite patterns of pistol because of how they stand out because of the brass on the barrel band, triggerguard and backstrap. The gun has an attractive mellow look to the brass. This one has the original walnut stock that that has a pleasing medium tone to the wood. This is a good looking original single shot military model Aston pistol that is affordable.
