Here is a nice piece to add to your post Civil War military rifle. This is the classic leather and brass sling that went on the U.S. Springfield "Trapdoor" military rifles that were using during the Indian Wars and on through the Spanish American War. The leather is full length including the sewn on loop on the end after the years. It has stiffened some over the years. These were constructed using two of the Civil War slings that were cut and join together to make them longer. You can see in the middle of this one where they were joined. The brass adjuster hook is still present on the other end. It has the brass adjustment hook on one end. You can still see traces of the Ordnance Department inspector stamping as well as the Haedrich of Philadelphia maker marking. These are tough to find and this one has a pretty brownish black tone to the leather.
