This is a great looking early straight bladed infantry sword! It is an original example of the highly collectible "Pillow" pommel military sword. These pillow pommel swords were very popular from the timeframe before the war of 1812 era until the 1830's. This one has the nicely styled pommel and it is made of gold gilded brass with nice a great look. The entire brass hand guard is present and it has a superb look as it still retains a pleasing amount of the original gold gilding from the factory in the protected areas. This is the pattern that has the single branch on the hand guard with the five raised balls in the center of the bow. The original handle is present and has a very pleasing look to bone handle grip. It has a brilliant light tan tone to the bone. The single edged blade is full-length at 32 inches. You can see the original etching on each side of the blade and it is the version with the beautiful fire blue and gold detail work. The front has the floral and patriotic designs with the maker marking of the famous firm of William Bolton of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was in business from 1797 until 1808. On the back of the blade it has the eagle with the "E PLURIBUS UNUM" motto in the banner above her. The sword is accompanied by the original leather and brass scabbard. The scabbard is designed with the single top mount with the original ring intact. This is a fine early sword all the way around. Don't miss this one.
