Civil War Era .40 Caliber Full-Stock Rifle With Double Set Triggers
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a good looking Civil War era full stock rifle. This style of gun is often referred to by collectors as a country rifle or sometimes a Kentucky rifle. They were mainly used for hunting purposes, but occasionally they were pressed into service during the Civil War. This one has a full-length 34-1/4th inch barrel that is designed to fire a single bullet of approximately .40 caliber. The barrel is completely unmarked and still retains the original front and rear sights. The gun has the original lock and this one still cocks back in place like it should but slips off occasionally and is priced accordingly. It is designed with the double set triggers which allows it to be used more accurately for target shooting. The gun has the original 1 piece wood stock that is still full length with a very pleasing look as you can see in the images. There are a couple of cracks and an ancient brass plate repair to the wrist. It has the original brass nosecap intact as well as all 3 of the original ramrod channel guides. It has an incorrect wooden replacement ramrod in the channel under the barrel. This is a good looking gun that displays well and doesn't cost a fortune.
