Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original beautifully designed 1861 dated $50 note from the Confederate States Government. In the center of the note it has the likeness of the George Washington. Washington was claimed by the Confederacy because of his being from Virginia. In the lower left hand corner is the scene of the Goddess Tellus who was the Roman Goddess of the earth. This one is hand signed and numbered in ink. This is the note listed in Criswell's book as T-8. The note is in nice circulated condition as you can see in the scans. It has the small holes in the paper where it was marked by the Confederate Government when it was taken out of circulation. This process is known as "Cut Cancellation". The note is correct hand signed and numbered in fine old ink. The note has been professionally graded by the PMG Company and they have rated it as "Very Fine". It comes in their acid free holder for display and preservation.
