Here is a very cool looking gun that doesn't cost a fortune. This is a percussion double barrel from the 1850's or 1860's. This very well made gun was made in Europe and imported for sale to the well-to-do American market. It is marked on the lockplate with the "LEWIS & TOMES" retailer mark visible. This firm is best known for its button making ability as well as for the swords they produced. The lockplate also has the engraved designs. On the lockplate it still has both of the hammers. The mechanics still functional on both positions with the top of the one of the hammer screws chipped off long ago. The barrel is full-length at 31-3/4th inches and is smoothbore of 12 gauge size. At the breech of the barrel it has the gold inlay bands and platinum touch holes. The stock of this gun is constructed of a single piece of Walnut. It has a beautiful grain with an ancient look as well as the ornate checkering at the wrist. It has an old replacement ramrod in the channel under the barrel. This is a cool looking and still affordable English gun.
