This is a nice looking original socket bayonet like the ones illustrated and described on page 164 and 165 of the book by David Noe and Joseph Sebaroli, Jr. It is a French made military rifle bayonet officially known as the model 1853. This bayonet has a nice light gray patina all over. The original locking ring and screw are intact on the socket and are fully functional. The bayonet measures 20.88 inches in overall length. The bayonet has the "30" stamping at the base as well, as the number "E / 3790" stamped on the left-hand side of the socket. These are the issue stampings from the Government. There is a repair to the shank that is mentioned for exactness. This is a nice looking and complete 1853 pattern Belgian socket bayonet.
