This is a nice, authentic and tough to find .36 caliber model of Remington revolver. This is the Civil War pattern of .36 caliber Remington revolver. The metal on the gun has a light gray tone all over with a mostly smooth surface with some salt and peppering in areas. It has the majority of the September 1858 patent mark across the top of the barrel to go along with the Remington maker's mark and Ilion, New York production location. It has matching serial numbers of 29,451, which is in the early part of their production of this model. They started marking these "New model" Remington revolvers at 23,000 which was the end of the model 1861 "old Model" revolver. There were only 28,000 of these "new" model revolvers made during their 1863-1878 production. The action works well on all positions. A few of the nipple have chips from being shot. On the handle of the gun it has the original 2-piece walnut grip intact. The grips of the gun have some wear with a lot of character. This is one of the guns you wish could tell that story. This is a nicely priced original .36 caliber Remington "new model" Civil War revolver.
