This is a beautiful non-excavated Civil War coat button for the Staff officers. This is the classic pattern of button worn by officers on both sides of the Civil War. The face of the button has the beautiful spread wing eagle button. Around the edge of the button it has the stars with the lined field background. It has the original back and shank nicely intact on the reverse and a clear Civil War retailer's mark of the firm of R&W Robinson of Attleboro, Massachusetts. Robinson was one of the premiere retailers of the era prior to the Civil War. They sold many of the quality officer's buttons used during the Civil War era such as this one. This is one of the tougher to find backmarks for a U.S. staff officer button. This is a very nice looking button with fine detail. It will make a fine addition to your collection.
