175th Pennsylvania Large Leger Book for Company Clothing
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very cool piece of history from the Keystone state. This is the original large leather bound book that recorded the clothing used by the "F" company of the 175th Pennsylvania Infantry. This is a book that measures 15-3/4ths inches by 10-1/2 inches in overall size. It shows when each of the members of the Company received their clothing and they each had to sign for the items received. Each man has the notation of what he received and the date and he signed with a witness because they owed for each piece. If you notice, the men that couldn't write made their mark "X". The records show that the 175th were formed from eight companies from Chester County and two from Montgomery County. They served under General Spinola originally and then sent to North Carolina to serve under General Foster. They were part of the force that fought at New Berne, North Carolina. They served until August 7th 1863 when they were mustered out in Philadelphia. This is a great book in fine condition.
