REMINGTON RIDER! 9th Plate Tintype of Man Wearing a Forage Cap & Holding PIstol
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a very nice 9th plate ambrotype image of a Civil War era soldier. These ambrotype images were produced by applying the photo emulsion onto a thin glass plate. This is the size that is referred to by collectors as the ninth plate which is 2 inches by 2.5 inches in overall size. This image has fine detail. He is wearing his frock style coat and on his head he wears the forage style military hat. What makes this image really stand out is what he holds in his hand. He holds the .31 caliber Remington - Rider revolver. The distinct design of the gun is unmistakable. The image is in the original leatherette case and the glass and brass matt remains. Behind the image it has the paper label that reads "Great Daguerreotype Depot, Cincinnati, Tyler & Co. Proprietors and Originators of the Invention by which Eight Hundred Portraits are daily executed, three taken at a pop. Portraits 25 Cents.' This is a nice original ambrotype image with a lot of character!
