Confederate .69 Caliber Musket Ball Paper Cartridge Missing the Powder
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a great display piece! it is an original paper cartridge for the .69 caliber musket. These have the large .69 caliber round ball to be fired out of a smooth bore musket. This one has nice looking original paper and string tying the ball in place. The majority of the powder has been removed from inside of the paper. This one is likely a Confederate manufactured cartridge. It is very similar to the one illustrated on page 183 of Volume 4 of the Thomas book, Roundball to Rimfire. That one is listed as being made at the Augusta Arsenal. As you can see it displays quite well.
