Civil War & Earlier Soldier's Belt Buckles in Excavated & Non-E
Scarce Original Medium Size Ohio Volunteer Militia Belt Buckle
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very attractive displaying original Civil War belt buckle. This is the version that was worn by Ohio troops. It has the bold, proud letters "OVM" on the front of the buckle that of course stands for the Ohio Volunteer Militia. This is the tougher to find version that is referred to by collectors as the "Medium" size Ohio buckle. In O'Donnell & Campbell's buckle book they are illustrated as figure #553 on Page 340. They state they are 1861 production. The back of the buckle has both of the original belt hooks intact with one twisted to the side. The edge of the face has some chips as you can see in the image but it hasn't had any restoration at all. It displays well and these are quite tough to find this days so don't miss this one.
