Rifle & Musket Bayonets from after the Civil War
Edged Weapons
Original Socket Bayonet for an Indian War Springfield Rifle
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an original socket bayonet for the "trapdoor" Springfield rifle. They look almost identical to the Civil War socket bayonets except they have a smaller socket. This is to fit the smaller bore size of the trapdoor rifle design. The metal of the bayonet has an nice untouched appearance with the scattered pitting. At the base of the full-length blade it was made without the US stamping. On the socket it has the original lock ring and screw intact and they still pivot. This is a very nice display piece that is priced very affordably.
