Excellent Schnitzler Made Enfield Pattern Saber Bayonet With Excellent Scabbard
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original saber style bayonet for the Enfield pattern rifle. This is the classic style of bayonet that could have been used on the end of the gun or taken off to use like a true saber. This one has a full-length blade that has a nice tone. At the base of the blade it has the maker's mark that lets us know it was made by August & Albert Schnitzler in Solingen, Germany. This company was one of the fine edged weapon makers in Germany. They were in business from 1811 until only 1864. So you know it wasn't made after the Civil War. The handle is in fine shape with the original spring being present and fully functional. The pressed leather handle is completely intact and is in untouched condition. The saber bayonet is accompanied by the excellent original leather scabbard. As you can see, the scabbard is beautiful. This is a very attractive original Civil War era Enfield rifle saber bayonet with a desirable maker's mark. '
