Non-Dug Massachusetts Infantry Coat Button Like MS39 by Waterbury
Click on an image to enlarge

This is one beautiful 23mm coat button! It is the version that is listed as MS39 in Albert's button book and as MS302a1 in Tice's book. It is an infantry button for the state of Massachusetts. Around the edge of the button it reads "MASS. VOLUNTEER MILITIA" and has the Massachusetts arm and sword in the center with the large letter "I" for infantry. Tice's book states that they are for the regulations that were adopted by Massachusetts in December of 1865 and that is why you don't' see them excavated in campsites. The reverse of the button has the clear Waterbury Button Company makers Mark. This one is in beautiful non-excavated condition and has the original back and shank intact. It displays superbly. '
