This is an original Civil War era CDV image of Civil War Brevet Brigadier General George Hampton Crossman (1799 - 1882). (USMA 1823, #355) Crosman was commissioned into the 3rd Infantry 1 July 1823, and in 1830 entered the ranks of the quartermasters where he spent most of his remaining career. Crosman was commissioned Lt. Col. in 1856 and promoted to Colonel in 1863. He retired 29 July 1866 shortly after the end of the war. He received two brevets (BG, MG) for faithful and meritorious service during the war. The CDV Image has the backmark of Broadbent studio in Philadelphia. The image shows the General in his uniform with his insignia showing on his shoulder. The CDV images were made by applying a thin paper photo image of the famous person of the day to a heavier paper card. This made the image more durable and easier to display and also added uniformity to the size. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. This is a solid original Civil War Union CDV image.
