120th Illinois Silver Identification Shield Pin of Joseph B. Morphew
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fantastic piece! It is an original Civil War soldier's jeweler engraved identification tag. This is the high quality version that would have been privately purchased by the soldier. It is made of silver and has a superb look all over. The face of the shield has the ornate engraving that reads "Corp. J.B. MOrphew" and has "F" and his regiment "120 Ill. V." . When we looked Morphew up we found out that he served from August 21st 1862 until September of 1865. He entered service as a private and mustered out as a corporal. The I.D. pin itself measures 1.25 inches by 1 inch in size. It has a gorgeous time that hasn't been cleaned at all. The reverse of the pin is just as nice as the front. It even has the original pin attached. Xerox copies of a brief history of Morphew record along with a brief regimental history will accompany the pin and we will leave the rest of the research for you.
