This is a tough to find button from the War of 1812. It is the style listed as figure GI42 in Albert's button book. It has the Union eagle in the center of the button with the "US" below. Around the edge of the button it reads "UNITED STATES INFANTRY". A decent bet of the detail can be seen even though the pewter of the button face has the bends to the metal. The original iron shank is missing from the reverse of the button. This button was found years ago at Fort San Marcos de Apalachee near Tallahassee. More importantly, this button is directly related to Jackson’s visit there in 1818 during the first Seminole War. This is a tough button to find.
