This is a non-excavated Post Civil War button! It is the cuff size staff officer uniform button for the state of ' Alabama. This is the pattern listed as AB1av in Albert's button book . This wide rim and Scovill backmark are considered by collectors as being made after the Civil War and is priced accordingly. On the face of the button it has the famous Map on Tree great seal of the state of Alabama. This one has a great look with a fine amount of the original gold gilding down in the recesses which makes the map shows up very well. There are no pushes or restorations at all on this button. On the back of the button it has the original back and shank intact. Most of the time one or the other is missing but this one has them both. The back of the button has the Horstmann Brothers maker's mark. It is the 1870 version back with the Civil War style front. This is a beautiful and complete Post Civil War state seal button from Alabama that any collector would appreciate.'
