When was the past time you saw one of these for sale? This is a sueprb quality piece of paper that was intended to be used by the Confederate Government for printing currency. This is a watermarked piece of paper that measures 6-5/8ths inches by 4-1/8th inches in overall size. In the center of the note it has the large block letter "CSA" watermark still clearly visible when you hold the paper up to the light. This piece most likely came from the Confederate blockade runner Bermuda was captured by the USS Mercedita on April 27, 1862 and taken to Philadelphia. Her cargo, which included a shipment of banknote paper bound for the Confederate States of America, was ordered sold by the Federal Courts. The Treasury Department purchased most of the "CSA" watermarked banknote paper and used it for a number of purposes, including Fractional Currency Specimen notes of the Second and Third Issues. The watermark on this example is bold and perfectly centered. What a neat piece!
