Here is a great ink autographs. This is a signature of Martin Van Buren who served as the eighth President of the United States (1837-1841). This is a hand written letter as well that was folded up for use as a postal cover addressed in Van Buren's own hand and is written to Mr. March. The former President writes "I have long intended to write you for no other purpose than to inquire about your health, & to say how abiding is the sense I entertain of your kindness to me & mine. Where are you? What [are] you about? & when shall we have the pleasure of seeing you once more at Lindenwald? If you come to the country, & don't shew yourself there, I shall be grievously offended. My own health is excellent, & I retain a sufficient taste to be able to drink your health and signally in the excellent wine for which I am indebted to your kindness..." He signs it beautifully "Your Friend, M. Van Buren." Van Buren was born on December 5th 1782 in Kinderhook, New York. He was a founder of the Democratic Party and served as New York's 9th Governor. His service continued by serving as the eighth Vice President and the tenth Secretary of State, both under President Andrew Jackson. Van Buren served as President for one term but continued in politics of the Democratic Party. He supported Lincoln even though he was a Democrat and he died in July 1862, at age 79. He is buried in his hometown of Kinderhook, New York. The letter is accompanied by a modern Xerox image of President Van Buren. This is a fine piece!
