Here is a rare excavated original Civil War Kentucky state seal coat button. This is the style that is listed as figure KY1 in Albert'sbutton book and KY200E4 in Tice's book. This pattern was made by the Steele & Johnson Company in Waterbury, Connecticut. This one of the very few buttons that is correct Civil War era manufactured buttons for Kentucky. The button itself has a slight push to the center of the face but still has a beautiful look as you can see. The original back is present and you can see the generic ".SUPERIOR QUALITY" backmark of the Steele & Johnson company. They used this RMDC backmark so the retailer could sell the button without advertising for the actual maker. The shank is nicely intact as well. This is a scarce button for any collection. '
