This is a great image. It is a 6th plate tintype of two your men sitting at a table. They each have the playing cards in their hands and if you notice, they each have on pinky rings. There is money on the table as well as a bitters bottle. Most bitters products were simply an infusion of herbs in alcohol which offered a legitimate option to consume alcohol in times when drinking was socially unacceptable or illegal. The image is encased in an original octagonal image case that was designed to hold an image. These are the style case that are made of a thermoplastic material that is better known as a "Gutta Percha" case. They are high quality cases that held the best images of the Civil War era. It still has the maker's marking from the S. Peck & Company as well as the notation that it is a "GENUINE UNION CASE". This one is the size known to collectors as the sixth plate image. This the size that sixth plate tintype size measures approximately 3.25 by 2.75 inches in overall size. The case alone is worth well over $100 these days. This is a great image for your collection with some cool content. '
