This is a very interesting a fierce weapon. This is the pattern that is illustrated on page 216 of the Bowie Knife Book by Norm Flayderman. He described this weapon as "A CONTINUING ENIGMA". He tells how these were probably made by the same firm that made the double ring Bowie knives that are thought to have been made in New Orleans. They are constructed with an overall size of 14-1/4th inches with the blade making up 9-1/4th of those inches. The blade is a well made clip point design and this one has been sharpened long ago and it would have been fearsome. The handle on these are made of a piece of cast brass with the false wire pattern in the center to make it easier to hold onto. The handle is made with the open end and Flayderman notes that it could not have been used as a bayonet since the gun wouldn't fire and it was likely designed as a removable pike tip. That makes it a remarkable multi-purpose weapon. The knife is accompanied by the original sheath and the majority of the scabbard belt frog made of leather. The sheath is made of a leather body with a brass throat and drag. The frog at the top has one of the 2 belt loops remaining. This is a very cool looking piece from all angles!
