This is an original metallic cartridge for the Civil War Spencer Repeating Cavalry Carbine or rifle. The cartridge is the correct .56 caliber which would have fit the model 1860 Spencer repeating rifle or carbine. It is a great excavated artifact from the famous Spencer repeater. The bullet and casing are original and have NOT been put back together. The verbal history that accompanied the piece is that the piece was recovered in the area of Westminster, Maryland in an area occupied after the Battle of Gettysburg.
