This is a nice .44 caliber slightly post-Civil War Colt "Army” model revolver. These Colt army revolvers were a favorite of any Civil War soldier that was lucky enough to be able to get one. This has an attractive grayish gray patina all over. Across the top of the barrel it has the remnants of the Colt maker’s mark and the New York City office location. These guns were actually manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut but New York City was the sales office location. The cylinder still has a small amount of the Texas naval battle scene engraving. It has the serial numbers with the majority of the parts of 188,773 except for the barrel wedge which is an original with a different serial number. Thanks to Mr. Colt’s bookwork we know that it would have been made in 1870. The side of the frame still has the "COLTS PATENT" stamping. The action is in fully functioning condition. The handle of the gun has the original 1-piece walnut grips intact with a nice look. The brass of the triggerguard has a very pleasing golden tone to the brass. This is a nice honest and desirable model 1860 Colt patent army model revolver that doesn't cost a fortune.
