This is a very nice non-excavated socket bayonet for the Civil War Springfield or other contractor made military .69 caliber rifle. This one has a full-length blade with the stamps still partially visible at the base. The socket is also in fine shape. This pattern was designed to fit the U.S. military rifles of the 1816 pattern by Springfield or the muskets made by the contract makers either one. It has a brownish maroon finish all over that will look fine on many of the guns that are out there. The bayonet is accompanied by the original leather scabbard. The scabbard is the pattern that is assembled using the 2 brass rivet attachment on the scabbard belt loop. The scabbard body is complete as you can see in the pictures but the belt loop has drawn to the side over the years. It still has the original brass scabbard tip present at the bottom. The belt loop remains and would fit back onto your belt today. What makes this one neat is that it is the version that uses the buff leather for the construction of the belt loop. This will be a solid addition to your gun or just for display by itself.
