This is a wonderful looking War of 1812 era British officer’s saber in relic condition. This is officially known as the British Model 1803 Officer’s Saber. They are very distinctive because of the highly stylized hand guard and pommel cap. It has the pommel cap that is made of gold gilded brass that is in the shape of a lion’s head. This one has the higher quality trait of being hand chased for greater detail than most of the ones that you encounter. You can see the traces of the rose color gold gilding in the protected areas of the brass, The guard is also more stylized with chasing to the British Crown design and the "GR” mark of King George. The original grip is missing in action on the handle of the sword with the wooden core visible. The blade is full-length at 26-1/4th inches and it has the deep curve to the blade that would have made it a fierce weapon in close combat. The sword has the great looking ancient look for a British sword from the War of 1812 era.
