This is a great looking knife. It is an original small size knife known as a "dirk". These were often used by naval officers as a sidearm. This one is like the one illustrated as figure 5.47 on page 220 of Peter Tuite's book on Naval Swords and Dirks. This beauty measures about 8 inches in overall length with a pretty double edged 4-1/4th inch blade. The handle It made with the silver that has a fantastic well worn look. The center of the grip is made of crosshatched ivory with a gorgeous look all over. It has the silver crossguard with the scalloped protrusions that are engraved. It is still accompanied by the original silver scabbard that has the stud style mount at the top. This is a gorgeous piece!
