This is an original tintype image of a Confederate soldier from the Civil War. This is the exact image that is photographed in the upper right hand corner of page 249 in the Bowie Knife book by Norm Flayderman. It shows the proud Rebel from the waist up and he is wearing a beautiful dark colored coat. This is the pattern of uniform that is known to collectors as shell style jacket with a coarse weave to the material. He has a classy looking clean-shaven face as you can see. The photographer tinted the soldiers cheeks to make them stand out a little more. What makes this one extra special is that he proudly holds his Bowie knife across his chest. The photographer gold gilded the crossguard on his knife as well as the buttons and his wedding ring on his finger. It is very clear and displays superbly but has the scratches as you can see in the images. This one is the size known to collectors as the ninth plate image. This means that the image measures approximately 2 inches by 2.5 inches in size. The image comes in a full gutta purcha case for display. This is a great image of an Armed Confederate.
