Here is a very cool little pistol from one of the most famous of all Firearms makers. This is the small pistol made by the famous firm of Remington's of Ilion, New York. It has their maker's Mark across the top of the frame as well as the October 1, 1861 patent date. In Flayderman's guide to antique arms he states that these pistols were made from 1865 until 1888. The estimated total quality was between 17,000 and 20,000. Underneath the barrel this one has the serial number of B1598. This number is matching underneath the grip. These pistols are often referred to as the "Saw Handle Derringer"because of the way the grip of the gun is designed. This small gun measures only 4 1/4 inches in overall length with the barrel making up 3 1/4 of those inches. It fires a single bullet from a rimfire metallic cartridge and the bullet is only .22 in caliber. The front of the barrel has the original front sight intact. The mechanics of the gun still work well after all these years. On the handle of the gun it has the original 2 piece Walnut wood grips intact. This is a nice early gun from the Remington Firearms manufacture.
