Here is a very tough to find Confederate artillery short sword. This is the pattern that is believed to have been manufactured by the Confederate States Armory in Kenansville, North Carolina that was owned by Louis Froelich. This pattern is illustrated on page 90 of the fine book on the Froelich Company by John McAdden and Chris Fonvielle. It has the very distinctive slender cast brass grip that just radiates Confederate flavor and characteristics. You can see the casting blemishes from the sand mold and also the hand filing marks from finishing by the armorer. The blade is full length at 19 inches with the overall size measuring 24-1/2 inches. Each side of the blade has the single fuller groove in the center. As you can see the blade has a gorgeous ancient look all over. What makes this one extra special is that it is accompanied by the original leather and brass scabbard. The scabbard has the top mount that has the original stud for attaching to the artilleryman's belt. The leather is still solid as a rock and it even has the original brass drag intact on the bottom of the scabbard. It just doesn't get any more Confederate than this piece.
