Here is a wonderful Confederate weapon! This is the classic North Carolina manufactured the D-Guard Bowie knife. This is the pattern that has always been attributed to being manufactured by the famous firm in North Carolina, owned by Lewis Froehlich. This firm is often referred to as the Kenansville Armory. There Bowie knives have the distinct thick iron handguard with the classic wooden handle. This one has the entire guard intact and in perfect form, and all of the wooden handle is present as well. On the back side of the handle it has 3 initials light;y but nicely carved into the wood "JMD". The blade of the knife is double edged and is full-length at 14-7/8ths inches. The blade has a beautiful ancient dark tone all over with some light service nicks along the edge. The knife is missing the leather scabbard as they so often are. This is a wonderful original Confederate made Bowie knife from the Tar Heel state.
