Here is a scarce original cartridge for a .36 caliber revolver. This is the English style cartridge that was known to them as an 84 gauge. These were designed by companies like Eley of London to compete for the cartridge market for Colt and other revolvers. The cartridge itself is made of a skin material and it has the paper "wrapper” on the outside. The ribbon was used to free the cartridge from the wrapper so it could be placed into the gun cylinder. On the paper wrapper it has the desirable "Capt. M. Hayes', R.N. / Patent / Skin Cartridge, / Manufactured by / Broux & Moll, London." maker’s mark still visible. This one is in nice non-excavated condition but has the split on the side of the cartridge paper. It still displays well.
