Here is a very attractive and very cool looking gun. This is a early 1800s produced Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss With the Spring Mounted Bayonet. These guns were designed so that when you fired a single blast you could use the flip out bayonet as a last line of defense. This gun has a 1-inch (inside) muzzle diameter to the full-length 13-5/8ths inch brass barrel. The weapon is 29 inches in overall length. Along the top of barrel it has the engraved "RIVIERE LONDON" and it has the tang of the barrel with the floral motif engraving. On the underside of the muzzle it is mounted with a pivot for a spring-loaded steel bayonet with a 5-3/4th inch triangular blade. On the of the front of the brass nosecap it is designed with a spring loaded catch to hold the bayonet in place when folded. The catch still works as it should. The gun is in the original flintlock configuration and has the iron lock that is marked "JOHN RICHARDS" in engraved letters. John Richards was a gunmaker in London, England from 1775 until his death in 1821. On the stock opposite of the lock plate, it has the brass side plate with the border and floral engraving on the screw heads. Underneath the gun, it has the brass trigger guard with acorn finial. It has the ornate panoply of arms design to the top of the butt plate. The gun has a beautiful furniture grade walnut wood stock with the brass buttplate with a pleasing tone to the brass. This is a very attractive gun overall and looks very fierce when the bayonet is extended.
