This is an original piece of currency from the Civil War era from the Union state of Michigan. This one was issued for the amount of $3.00 by the Adrian Insurance Company in Adrian, Michigan. The face of the note has the image of the beautiful steam train image in the center. On the left hand side it has the image of the lady. Both sides of the note have the red "THREE" overprint. This was added to help aid in the prevention of counterfeiting. On the back of the note it is made without any printing. Collectors refer to a not that has a blank back as being "uniface”. With the pre war printing date of this note it surely was handled by some of the Union soldiers and on the home front as well. As you can see the note has the correct ink signatures just as it should have. It has the Ink serial numbers but was never dated. In Shull’s guide he has a couple and they are dated from 1853 and this would be the time frame we are looking at with this note. The notes measures 7-1/8ths inches by 3 inches in overall size. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
