This is one of the neatest patterns of guns ever made by the famous Allen & Wheelock Company. It is the pattern that has the double barrel and hammers but it fires from a single trigger. According to Flayderman there were only 500 to 1,000 of these made during the 1850’s. It has double barrels of .34 caliber that measure 4-1/4th inches in length. The metal parts have been reblued along the line and now displays well. You cock one of the hammers back and fire it and then do the next one. Often the mechanics do not work correctly because they have been cocked back at the same time and broken the action. This one works well on one side but the other side has spring but no longer catches on either positions. The gun is unmarked but was made by Allen & Thurber. This one has matching assembly numbers of "12". It has the original 2-piece walnut grips present on the handle of the gun. The grips have a nice worn look. This is a scarce little gun that displays well.
