This is a great looking sword from all angles! This is the U.S. model 1860 staff & field officer's sword. The name is deceiving because only a small handful were made before the Civil War ended and the majority were made from 1870 until about 1900 or so. This is the higher grade that was presented as a token of honor and esteem. This one has the full-length blade with the large "US" lettering on one side and the other has the partial owner's name engraved into the metal but not enough to read. At the base of the blade it has the maker's name etched into the metal. This is the marking of the Boston, Massachusetts company of the Hardin Uniform Regalia Company. It the maker book it states that they used this name marking from about 1904 until about 1920. The handle is intact and as you can see it is in excellent condition. The sword is accompanied by the original scabbard that has the rings, mounts and throat intact. It is missing the drag of the scabbard at the bottom. This is a great looking sword and scabbard for the price.
