Here is a very nice cartridge. It is the long pattern cartridge for the .46 caliber Remington Carbine. This is the pattern that is illustrated on page 69 of the cartridge book by Logan. They fit the "Split Breech" Remington model carbine. According to the book, on January 19th 1865, Samuel Norris, an agent for Remington secured a contract from the War Department for 5,000 of these arms. This Cartridge is in excellent non-excavated condition and displays well as you can see. This is the version that was made with the early Winchester "H" headstamp on the bottom of the cartridge. This is a fine non-excavated piece of firearms history.
