If you have always wanted an original Revolutionary War era pistol, then this one is for you. This is the classic French model 1777 flintlock pistol. The gun itself measures 14 inches in overall length with the barrel making up 7-3/8ths of those inches. At the base of the barrel you see the "82" stamping. On the front of the grip it has the correct "1783" production date. This is the way they marked the production date of 1783. What is cool about this date is that it is the same year of the last details of the Revolutionary war were finished including the peace treaties were signed and the last of the British troops left in December of 1783. When this gun left the arsenal it would have been a flintlock. Along the line it was converted to percussion to "modernize" it for use. The mechanics of the gun work well in all positions. Just below the hammer it has the Arsenal Mark of "St. Etienne" in the brass. The ramrod is a modern made replacement under the barrel. On the left-hand side of the gun it has had the steel style belt hook removed and you can see by the patina that it has been gone for eons. The triggerguard has been replaced along the line. The stock of the gun is original with nice honest wear with a repair to the wood opposite of the lockplate. On the front of the grip it has the "1783" production date of the grip. This is a very attractive original Revolutionary war era flintlock pistol with a very pleasing look.
