This is a gun that you very seldom see offered. It is the small gun made by the famous Remington Company of Ilion, New York. They only made about 17,500 of these .32 caliber guns with the serial numbers intermingled with the .22 caliber version to about 25,000. This one has matching serial numbers of 8,855. They were made between 1863 and 1888, according to Flayderman's guide. They are known to collectors as the Remington-Elliot Deringer. Elliot is the man that held the patent on the design. They fired four of the .32 caliber rimfire cartridges. They have a four shot barrel cluster with a revolving firing pin similar to the Sharps style pepperbox. This one has the original ring trigger that still moves forward but the mechanics and the striker on the inside no onger rotates as it should. The gun has the original 2-piece hard rubber grips intact. On the left hand side of the barrel cluster it has the "MANUFACTURED BY E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION . N. Y.” On the right hand side it reads "ELLIOT’S PATENTS MAY 29 1860- OCT. 1 1861”. These little guns are tough to find and this one is a nice one, especially for the price.
