Excellent CDV of Confederate Thomas Hart Taylor With Anthony Backmark

Here is a fine original CDV image of Confederate General Thomas Hart Taylor (1825 – 1901). The image shows the chest up view of Gardner in his Confederate uniform. Taylor was born on July 31st 1825 in Frankfort, Kentucky. He served during the Mexican War with the 3rd Kentucky. Early in the Civil War he was Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Kentucky Infantry. Taylor served on the staff of General Pemberton at Vicksburg. He was appointed to Brigadier General on November 4th 1862 but Jeff Davis failed to nominate him top the Senate. After the Civil War he lived in Mobile, Alabama until 1870 when he returned to his home state of Kentucky. He served 11 years as chief of police in Louisville. He died on April 12th 1901 and is buried int he State Cemetery in Frankfort. These CDV images measure approximately 2 1/2 inches wide and are 4 inches tall. On the back of this card it has the desirable photographer marking of the E.A. Anthony firm. This is a tough to find image of a Confederate General.
