Scarce Applied Bridge U.S. Model 1798 Socket Bayonet

This is one that you don't see offered every day. It is a variation of the socket bayonet listed as figure b37 on age 23 of the book by Robert Reilly entitled American Socket Bayonets and Scabbards. He labels them as the U.S. model 1798 Contract Era Bayonets. They are easily distinguished by the applied bridge on the socket. This one has the bridge but you have to look closely to see where it was applied. The bayonet is nice and dark all over as are most of the guns of the time. The blade is triangular and is full-length at 15-3/4ths inches and is completely unmarked. The socket measures 3-1/4th inches. This is a very scarce pre-War of 1812 bayonet for your relic room wall.
