This is an original trio of tactics manuals from a soldier from Pennsylvania. The manuals has the soldier's name on the inside of the cover of two of the books and the third is blank. The 2 books have the names of "R.G. Warner Lt. Co. E. 44 N.Y.V." nicely written in old ink and a pencil inscription that reads "Thos. Dempsey Co. E. 44th Regt. N.Y.V." They also has the inscription that states "Camp near Falmouth, Va Winter of 1862/63". The records show that that both men served in the 44th New York and Warner was discharged in August of 1863. Dempsey served until June of 1864 and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on December 26th 1863. The books are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd volumes of the infantry tactics manuals that were written by Brigadier General Silas Casey. These were printed in New York in 1862 by the firm of D. Van Nostrand, and are so marked on the title pages. The books themselves are in very fine condition for their age. They appear to have all of the pages and most if not all of the pull-out diagrams intact. You get both of the books as well as some information on the men's service.
